Contracts in specialist sectors

LOCALLY based Project Managers and Quantity Surveyors, Goodrich Consulting LLP, are thriving during what has been a busy and commemorative year.

Having celebrated their 25 years in business this August, Goodrich are working on some very exciting projects at the moment and have selected one from each of their specialist sectors to showcase.

Goodrich were appointed by Roxhill Developments on the site at Brackmills Point in Northampton which is in the process of being developed into two warehouse schemes. The first, Unit 1, is a 349,019 sq ft warehouse including two-storey offices, which has recently commenced on site works after a long period of major enabling works. This site is set on steep terrain which required extensive cut and fill to create a developable plateau. Extensive archaeological investigations were undertaken as part of the enabling works, a historic Saxon Village was discovered on the hillside with a Saxon round house, three kilns and over 30 human remains uncovered. Not only did Saxons once exist on this site but it was also home to great crested newts and badgers, who have subsequently been relocated. The archaeology for the site has carefully been documented to aid in the recording of Northampton’s history.

Alongside the excavation works was the diversion of 33KVA and 11KVA power cables that ran directly through the site, to now sit safely underground on the perimeter of the site. Unit 1 is well on its way, being developed to occupy Decathlon, Europe’s No. 1 sports retailer. The warehouse will be fitted out to allow for storage, a showroom and even a bike repair centre. Outside will see the laying of two MUGA pitches. Works are due to complete in May 2018 and will be followed by Unit 2, a 172,224 sq ft warehouse with two-storey offices, in June 2018.

In addition to their expertise in industrial and commercial schemes, Goodrich are also providing Project Management and Quantity Surveying services to Taylor and Taylor Shires Ltd on a new 70-bedroom care home in Shipston-on-Stour. This project involves a first floor dementia unit and two separate extra care apartment blocks which have recently started on site after the demolition of the existing building, a former production facility for Hi-tech Turbine Blading. The care home is on a 62-week programme and due for completion in November 2018.

Goodrich have also just completed on site at Bedford Girls’ School, where works were undertaken throughout the summer holiday. The project has provided Bedford Girls’ School with a new state-of-the-art drama dance studio equipped with lighting, audio and acoustic improvement. The drama studio was upgraded to include flexible staging and seating options using a modular system that offers the school a 360-degree performance space. The works created a modern foyer area and an external storage area to effectively increase the teaching space available internally.

The previous caretaker store room was converted into a dance studio fitted out with a ballet barre, new flooring and decoration throughout with floor-to-ceiling mirrors, along with further upgrades to the acoustic and audio installation. Specialist lighting, audio and acoustic upgrades have also been added to the existing assembly hall, and the existing stage lighting in the Junior School was upgraded along with the audio installation.
