AWARDS bring high expectations and the team at the village pub, The Stag’s Head in Great Doddington, know how important it is to continue to make the right impression.

The independently-run pub and restaurant has extended opening hours and is open every day from 11am to 11pm. Food is served all day on Saturday and Sunday – just some of the latest improvement to meet the demands of customers who want to make the most of the venue.

It is 25 years since Gerry and Bob Rendle took on the venue and they are supported by a loyal team headed up by licensee and General Manager Kelly Rendle.

The team includes Head Chef Glenn Shelswell, who has been working at The Stag’s Head for 24 years, backed up by Chef Len King, who has 18 years’ service.

The Stag’s Head serves high-quality food seven days a week, including four roasts on a Sunday, plus a full menu and specials of the day. This is available all day on Sundays from noon to 8pm, giving customers another excellent reason to visit.

A new menu has just been launched, with tempting choices such as garlic tiger prawns in a hot sizzling garlic sauce, garlic-crumbed Camembert wedges, extra mature chargrilled fillet steak, with maybe a gorgonzola and leek sauce or Marmite butter. Then there is sliced Gressingham duck breast served with a tangy orange marmalade sauce, fillet of sea bass on a bed of tomato concasse and, of course, chef’s handmade steak pie.

The Stag’s Head has a 50-seater beamed restaurant, 24-seater cellar restaurant area, perfect for those family or party get togethers, a large lounge bar and a separate garden bar area, (which is dog friendly) when there are no private functions. The Garden Bar leads out to an attractive enclosed garden area. All areas are suitable for private parties, barbecues and buffets.

The varied menu, which is enhanced by specials, is reviewed on a daily basis, there are also gluten and dairy free menus available on request and The Stag’s Head team pride themselves on catering for special occasions including birthdays, anniversaries, christenings, wakes and business meetings. Various other menus are available on request, or online, including options for buffets, party menus, set menus, snack menu, barbecue menu, or a bespoke menu for the extra special occasion.
