New structure for the new year

THREE successful family-run property businesses start 2018 with a new name after a major restructuring programme.

Darby Group Ltd is now made up of Darby Investments Ltd and The Darby Building Company Ltd, both set up between 1999 and 2001, and Darby Properties Ltd, which was established 60 years ago.

The Darby family still own and run the company, which is headed up by brothers Max and Richard and their cousin and fellow director Andrew. This is the third generation of the Darby family to be involved in the business, which takes pride in the range of properties it has available and the service that the team is able to provide to tenants.

Richard said: “2017 has been a very busy and successful year for the business, with historically low vacancy rates across our portfolio. We are now looking forward to starting 2018 with a company that is more streamlined and efficient thanks to the restructuring.”

THIRTY-one self-contained industrial units built around three courtyards at Moulton Park have been purchased by Darby Group Ltd.

The courtyards off Owl Close and Low Farm Place include four units currently available for rent, with the rest already occupied by a wide range of businesses from food wholesalers to a gym, along with more traditional engineering and manufacturing uses.

The acquisition is the first on Moulton Park for the property company which boasts an extensive portfolio of industrial and residential properties. Along with properties in the Northampton area the Darby Group also owns buildings to let across the county and in Narborough and Leicestershire, Olney, Milton Keynes and Buckingham.

The business moved to Moulton Park’s Kingsfield Centre 12 years ago, so the team already appreciates the benefits of being based on the thriving industrial estate.

Director Richard Darby said: “Our move from the town centre was only meant to be a temporary measure but we have ended up staying. It makes sense as Moulton Park is recognised as one of the town’s, if not the county’s, premier industrial estates.

“We are delighted that we now have properties in Moulton Park represented in our portfolio.”

The 1,000 square feet units each have rear-loading access and a front office, which means the spaces are ideal for businesses that need access for customers.

“The customer-facing frontages should appeal to businesses including start-ups and it really is a great location,” said Richard. “The units have a modern design and the courtyards are well-maintained with good car parking and landscaping. We believe we can use our hands-on management style to increase the potential of the properties.”

Anybody interested in one of the four available units should contact the agents TDB Real Estate, Underwoods or Chown Commercial. The Darby Group also has another exciting opportunity coming up in 2018, with the availability of a substantial headquarters building in Brixworth. The 24,000 sq ft warehouse, with an additional 16,000 sq ft of offices, will be available from April and is being marketed by Underwoods and Lambert Smith Hampton.
