Enjoying the fruit of their labours

HIGH quality produce, a wealth of experience and an efficient and reliable service means wholesale business customers are spoilt for choice at Whites Nurseries.

The fruit and vegetable wholesale sector is part of the growing success story of this business set up more than 75 years ago in Earls Barton, near Northampton.

When tastes have changed, Whites Nurseries have been able to meet fresh challenges including expanding its wholesale services. A variety of businesses in Northamptonshire and across the region take advantage of the variety of produce available and locally-produced items, to include milk and cream from Newlands Farm. Other dairy items and a small deli range also complement the ever-growing selection.

This means customers can not only put in fresh orders for must-have fruit and vegetables but take delivery of locally grown and produced products which are also sold in the thriving farm shop on site. Superb ranges and exotic lines, as well as ready-prepared vegetables and the very popular trend of micro herbs and micro salads, offer customers the opportunity of additional and exciting produce to fulfil and exceed their requirements.

James and Edward White are the third generation to run the business set up by Philip White in the 1940s followed by their father Michael, who in the early 1980s made the move to Clay Lane from where the business continues to operate.

Edward said: “We really believe our customers are looking for a wholesaler who shares the same high standards. We pride ourselves in being able to source the fresh produce required, even when it’s an item we don’t regularly stock. We can take orders by phone or email and welcome anyone who wishes to call in and take a look at what we have to offer. Our experienced staff are always happy to help and will show you what’s local and in season.

Carefully hand-picked daily deliveries are made across the area to pubs, restaurants, care homes, caterers and schools using the company’s fleet of vehicles. This also extends to many other types of businesses simply looking to offer a healthy snack for their office staff by ordering fruit boxes on a regular daily and weekly basis.

James said: “We are very proud of being able to follow in our family’s footsteps and ensure we are continuing to meet the needs of today’s customers. We welcome the opportunity to work with new clients and long-standing customers who have put their trust in our wholesale services.”
