Leading the way in its sector

TWO decades of providing the best catering equipment products and advice has led Whitco to the point where it can undertake anything from the planning of a completely new commercial kitchen and restaurant to providing the solutions needed to keep it clean.

Gradual development of the firm’s services, ongoing investment in the company and its employees, and refurbishment of its Thrapston premises, has left Whitco leading the way in catering equipment supplies. The firm now not only offers its impressive array of food preparation and storage equipment, but also prides itself in ensuring customers get the most from their products and services, for as long as possible.

From major projects for prisons, schools, colleges, universities and hospitals through to refits in independent restaurants and cafes, Whitco specialises in supplying, installing and maintaining professional catering and bakery equipment to clients across the UK and all food service and retail sectors.

Meanwhile, at the firm’s headquarters, there’s a demonstration kitchen and, a recent addition, a retail ‘shop window’ which showcases furniture and items such as glassware, crockery, pizza bags and the recently revamped Whitco Solutions kitchen cleaning and hygiene products needed to ensure compliance with environmental standards and, very soon, local businesses will be able to come and buy direct from Whitco’s cash and carry.

A second phase of the firm’s website redevelopment will see the addition of an ecommerce facility so that customers will be able to order online and download information.

Director Vita Whitaker said: “Whitco has a breadth of knowledge that comes from building a successful presence in the sector over more than 20 years and so we’ve turned that into a one-stop shop for catering knowledge.

“So our project management approach means that our clients don’t need to outsource any of the work, we can knock down an old kitchen and build a new one, we can fit out and carry out any extra work such as the complete M&E to painting, tiling, branding and interior design, training in using the equipment and ongoing service and maintenance. We’ve recently created a stronger working partnership with a local refrigeration company, so we can provide specialist services in that area, too.

“Our aim is to make sure that customers get the most from their outlay, so we can advise on carbon footprint by introducing energy efficient solutions, waste management, to include fats, oils and grease, deep cleans and to make sure they are compliant with health and safety legislation. Equipment that is maintained and in a safe condition lasts longer and does the job well, and potentially saves money on running costs as well.”

Whitco will be running a series of Open Days on 3 May, 15 June, 17 August and 4 October – when customers can visit the Thrapston premises and see for themselves the equipment in action, and view and discuss the products and services on offer. Those days are complemented by live cooking demonstrations.

A growing side of Whitco’s business is in the leisure sector, particularly garden centres, and the firm will be exhibiting again at Glee outdoor living and gardening show at the NEC Birmingham from 11 to 13 September. In addition, the firm is proud to sponsor the Restaurant of the Year category in the Carlsberg UK Northamptonshire Food and Drink Awards.
