Award-winning firm with a long history

VINCENT Sykes and Higham LLP is a five-partner firm based in the market town of Thrapston. The origins of the firm began with John Archbold, who started a legal practice in Thrapston in about 1831. Apart from a few years at the turn of the last century, the legal practice of Archbold and his successors has been carried out at Montague House, Chancery Lane, Thrapston. Amongst those successors was Vincent Sykes, whose name the firm still bears within the trading name of VSH Law. The current partners are husband and wife John and Louise Davies, Rhona Rowland, Shelly Phillips and Laura Carter.

The firm has a strong reputation for good client retention and has developed a specialist practice in the niche areas of agricultural and intellectual property matters. Managing Partner, Rhona Rowland, said: “We have consistently achieved a satisfaction rate of 99 per cent amongst our clients for the overall level of service they received from the LLP. Returning clients account for around 75 per cent of our workload at any one time.”

No surprise then that VSH Law’s work was recognised by the Northamptonshire Law Society at their annual Awards Dinner on 29 September. Reflecting on their being chosen as Best Small Firm 2017, Senior Partner John Davies said: “The partners and staff are rightly proud of this achievement, which reflects the fact that as a family firm, our ethos and values put our clients at the heart of everything we do.”

Rhona Rowland was delighted to accept the award on behalf of VSH Law at the awards dinner, which celebrates the best of legal practice in the county and awards the Fiona Moore prize to Northampton University’s best-achieving final year student.

It’s not only the county’s legal community who hold VSH Law in high esteem, the firm is also accredited with the Law Society’s Lexcel practice management and Conveyancing Quality Scheme standards. Acquiring and retaining such standards involves significant monetary and time investment from the practice.

VSH Law are proud to be able to offer notarial services through Laura Carter, recently welcomed into the partnership. Laura said: “It’s great to be part of such a forward-thinking management team. I’ve been encouraged to develop my notarial practice and was really proud to be invited as a notary to the opening of the Legal Year at Westminster Abbey.”
