Going from strength to strength

As 2017 draws to a close Tollers Solicitors reflect on the accomplishments of the firm through the year and looks forward to what 2018 will bring.

THE year started with a new union, when the firm merged with Oakham-based Simmonds Grant consolidating and strengthening the firm’s position and geographic footprint in the East Midlands.

There have been other significant milestones in 2017, a year which saw the firm celebrating 140 years as a practice offering legal services. Tollers, a firm that originated in Kettering, is extremely proud of its rich history in Northamptonshire and now has a spine of operations from Hertfordshire in the south through Milton Keynes and Northamptonshire and up to Rutland in the north of our region.

During the year Tollers celebrated its first anniversary in its new head office situated in Waterside Way, Northampton. The teams are working in a more progressive and cohesive way in an open-plan environment that has strengthened the firm’s offering for its staff and clients alike.

The firm has a new Commercial Real Estate team who are making a significant impact on the local markets. The new team is led by Simon Massey who has returned to the area, having grown up here, after working for many years in Yorkshire.

Mandy Stark was appointed as Head of Conveyancing at Tollers and the teams across all sites, which offer bespoke quality conveyancing services to private individuals, are seeing strong growth notwithstanding any slowing in the market post Brexit.

The Tollers Elderly and Vulnerable team held its third annual conference in 2017 where both guest speakers and internal experts discussed the issues relating to the Complexities of Mental Capacity. The conference was attended by over 80 local and national representatives. Planning for the fourth annual conference is already well under way and will be held in March 2018 in Northampton. The focus for the 2018 conference will be on Contracts, Scams and the Digital Risks our elderly clients face.

Each April, the firm selects a charity to support for the financial year and for 2017-2018 the firm decided to support MK Act. MK Act is a locally based charity who provide a wide variety of services to families experiencing domestic abuse in the Milton Keynes area. Tollers’ staff have participated in a number of fundraising activities including dress down days, bake sales, walking, cycling and running events and other novelty events. There are still many activities to come and the firm looks forward to continuing its support for MK Act in the coming months.

In addition to the firm’s charity of the year, Tollers has also participated in several national charity days, such as Jeans for Genes Day, Children in Need and others.

In 2018, Tollers will continue to focus on the growth of the firm and the services it offers to ensure that it is providing the quality legal services to both business and individual clients alike.

Duncan Nicholson, Managing Partner, said: “2017 has been an exciting year for the firm. We have faced challenges, change and opportunity throughout. Developments over the last 12 months have helped Tollers push forward and develop its legal markets further. Myself and the firm’s partners are pleased and excited with the development of our business which continues to move in the right direction.

“The firm celebrated 140 years this year and as its current custodians I know that we are building on the foundations to ensure that the Firm will still be here in another 140 years – we look forward to continuing to build for the future.”

Tollers provides clients with a full service offering in terms of legal provision. Whether it is a personal matter being dealt with by the For You teams or a commercial issue that requires Tollers For Business teams, clients can expect genuine client focus and high quality legal advice. Tollers values every client whether they are a private individual, small/medium size business or a large corporate.

The firm is aware of the importance of maintaining strong and lasting relationships and would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our clients, referrers, suppliers and friends for their continued support and wish you all a very merry Christmas and a prosperous 2018.
