Unsung hero

UNSUNG heroes from across the county were honoured at the annual Pride in Northamptonshire Awards in October.

The awards, run jointly by the Northampton Chronicle and Echo, Northants Telegraph and Daventry Express, took place at the Kettering Park Hotel and were hosted by Jon Moses, finalist from the ITV show Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Superstar.

Andrew Kelly, Director at Towergate Insurance in Kettering, proudly presented the Courage & Kindness Award, sponsored by Towergate. The criteria was for a person or group who had overcome adversity or hardship, or had helped others.

There were many worthy contenders, and three finalists, but Grandma Joan was pronounced the winner for knitting cardigans and hats for the Salvation Army. These are distributed to underprivileged babies three to six months old, around the world.

The evening was a huge success, and Andrew Kelly said: “There have been some very moving stories this evening and it never ceases to amaze me how many people selflessly put the welfare and wellbeing of others foremost in their lives. Grandma Joan is a prime example and was a worthy winner of tonight’s award.”
