A lesson for the future

TWO members of staff from Corby and Kettering-based Lamb & Holmes Solicitors went back to school recently, after accepting an invitation to St Brendan’s Primary School in Corby to discuss their careers with the Year 6 pupils.

St Brendan’s Primary School is trying to inspire and motivate pupils by encouraging them to think about their own ambitions for when they either leave school or go to university. Year 6 teacher, Lorraine Edgeley invited Remi McNeill, a Solicitor and Victoria Kirk who works as a Marketing Executive at Lamb & Holmes, to visit the school in order to discuss their positions with the children and to help them understand working life in the future.

Lorraine said: “We invited several local companies to the school, from different sectors to come in and talk to the pupils. As some of the children have expressed an interest in working in a legal environment, I thought it would be fascinating for them to find out more about this particular area.

“Remi McNeill attended St Brendan’s Primary School as a pupil, so it was lovely to be able to invite her back and for the children to find out about her successful career so far. The pupils also gained a fantastic insight into what working as a Solicitor actually involves and were able to ask some interesting questions.”

Victoria Kirk from Lamb & Holmes said: “It was wonderful to be able to discuss working life with the children and so refreshing to see how enthusiastic they all were. I thought this was an extremely valuable initiative offered by the school and I hope the pupils found it useful, giving them an understanding of the professions that are available within the local area”.

Lamb & Holmes Solicitors have a long history within Corby and Kettering and as a responsible, legal firm are keen to support the local community wherever possible and are happy to be involved with projects like this. Many of the staff from Lamb & Holmes are from and live in the local area, which made it significantly important to support St Brendan’s Primary School in this way.
