IT isn’t often that a company can boast nearly a century of service. This year will see Moulton College celebrating its 95th year of education in Northamptonshire, providing training to our future professionals.
Moulton started life from humble origins, launching its Farm Institute in 1921, which compromised two detached houses and four cottages. Since its inception, Moulton has been a centre of excellence in farming, serving as an experimental station for rural teachers and students.
The pedigree of the college stretches into the Second World War, where many of the courses, were cancelled to accommodate 1,300 women who were preparing for the Women’s Land Army. This propelled Moulton College into the national conscience as a national treasure in agriculture.
The college is proud of its heritage and its heavy involvement in training the nation’s future farmers in land-based study, but it has stayed closely in step with modern technology and it has adapted to provide a wide breadth of training in other areas. Eager to cater to a wider audience in recent years, Moulton College invested deeply in further vocational facilities to allow studies including construction, equine and animal welfare, sport (including the highly anticipated athletics track) and apprenticeships. The college also has set plans in motion to provide training in food and drink.
This push into the future was combined with a desire to work closely with local businesses to provide the best possible training for the students as well as the widest variety of choice for job opportunities when they finished their course.
The college has worked hard to help the country move towards the new Government target of providing three million new apprentices by 2020. Principal of the college, Stephen Davies has been working tirelessly to gain new contacts and relationships that will ultimately help students find their future career after their vocational studies.
Mr Davies said: “95 years after establishing itself in its permanent home of Moulton, the college still seeks to pursue excellence, whilst continuing to offer opportunities to those who have not previously tasted success or achieved formal qualifications.”
Moulton College continues to push the boundaries in educational excellence and is proud to celebrate its 95th Anniversary alongside Business Times’ 25th anniversary celebrations.
