Two simple rules ensured success

RUNNING a business since 1991 has certainly had its ups and downs. We started the business in what they all said was a recession… but we figured that was exactly the right time – there could only be one way to go and that was up. When I managed to get a contract that was really too big for us to handle, we took it on anyway.

We started the business in what they all said was a recession… but we figured that was exactly the right time – there could only be one way to go and that was up. When I managed to get a contract that was really too big for us to handle, we took it on anyway. In 18 months we went from zero to £180,000.00 turnover with just four people. If you think the banks are hard today, you should have tried getting finance back in 1992, so in 1993 we found two really kind investors who took a shine to our little company and invested and tried to teach me the ways of business. Lucky for us, I listened. The basic two rules were: Do exactly what you say you will Cash is king. We have kept these simple rules throughout our 25 years of trading. Over the last 25 years we have transformed customers’ homes and lifestyles with beautiful storage solutions. We have been lucky enough to be the main suppliers of a national builder for their top-end luxury wardrobes for the last 15 years – and I am proud to say in all that time there has only been three snags. Our business has been built on customer recommendations and I am often asked what makes us so special – the main reason is that we care. And while many home improvement companies are not really in control of their own destiny, awaiting supplies that are always late, not having conscientious staff to do a job properly, we at Renaissance are fussy about our customer quality and care. Some things do go wrong but it’s how you put it right that is very important. Our product, being a full carcass construction will stand the test of time. Recently I went to see a customer in need of a new kitchen. Hers was one of the first bedrooms we installed in 1991, we were both a tad older, of course, but the bedroom is still looking great after 25 years and she is still happy with it. Her new kitchen looked beautiful too. We are now fulfilling contracts for the children of the customers we once served, which is a great testimonial for our product. Your customers are not your friends – though some do become so – but you do feel very much a part of the family when working very closely with them in their homes. There are many I keep in contact with, which makes my job one of the best.
