The most inspiring small businesses

BAMBINO Mio, the successful producer and exporter of reusable nappies, which has capitalised on a growing market for sustainable, eco-friendly family products, is one of the businesses that has beaten off stiff competition to be crowned one of the East Midlands’s best small businesses.

The Northamptonshire firm was named as the East Midlands Digital Business of the Year – one of 12 award category winners at the FSB Celebrating Small Business Awards last month.

Other winners included Diamond Hard Surfaces, which was named Business Exporter of the Year. Based at Caswell Science and Technology Park near Towcester, the high performance engineering company provides materials technology and solutions to high endurance applications for a variety of blue chip companies worldwide.

Their patented amorphous diamond material Adamant®, which gives extended life in high temperature, chemically aggressive and other harsh environments is delivered to more than 22 countries. The company manufactures its materials in a bespoke facility in Towcester

The awards were attended and presented by VIP representatives from a host of organisations including the British Business Bank and Midlands Engine Investment Fund, the Department for International Trade, the Cabinet Office and East Midlands Airport, all keen to celebrate and encourage some of the East Midlands’ most vibrant and inspiring businesses.

David Dexter, FSB East Midlands Regional Chair, said: “Congratulations to all this year’s East Midlands FSB Business Award winners. They are reflective of the vibrancy, innovation and resilience that makes up our region’s small business community. It’s been thrilling to see so many of the region’s businesses enthusiastically take part in our awards and the sheer scale and diversity of those who entered is a testimony to the vitality of the small business community in the East Midlands. We all wish the very best of luck to all our regional winners for the UK national award finals in May.”
