A proper family Christmas

CELEBRATE the festive season at The Stag’s Head in Great Doddington, a traditional English village pub and restaurant, and independently owned, which is quite rare these days.

Expect a warm welcome at the pub which has a team headed up by general manager and licensee, Kelly Rendle. Kelly and proprietors Gerry and Bob Rendle have built up the pub’s reputation over 25 years and have a team which takes pride in providing a first-class service.

Freshly prepared, home cooked meals are a real attraction and the Christmas menu promises to live up to expectations.

This year’s menu includes starters of homemade soup and pate together with smoked salmon and cream cheese roulade, Portobello mushroom stuffed with Stilton and Cheddar topped with a panko crumb, to name a few, followed by traditional roast turkey, oven garlic roasted sirloin of beef, oven baked fillet of sea bass served on a bed of tomato concasse; slowly braised lamb shank in light mint gravy or a Somerset Brie tart, with a centre of beetroot and apple compote, red onion, chives and thyme. Various tempting desserts, including the obvious favourite Christmas pudding and brandy sauce, Golden Syrup cheesecake, chocolate fudge and Baileys trifle.

If you’re after a party atmosphere the party nights are very popular and include a disco and late bar. The dates for these are Friday 8, 15 and 22 December.

The Stag’s Head has a 50-seater beamed restaurant, cellar restaurant area, a lounge, and the Garden Bar, perfect for buffets, leading to a large pretty enclosed garden and smoking area.
