Something special for the festive season

GETTING into the Christmas mood means a cosy atmosphere, log fires, a glass of your favourite wine and plenty of good food – all of which are very much a part of the experience at The Royal Oak in Cogenhoe.

During December, the family-run pub will be serving a Christmas menu alongside it’s a la carte offering. Perfect for groups of friends or work colleague, or just for a pre-Christmas family get-together, the menu is available by advance booking and priced at £23 for two courses and £29 for three.

The Royal Oak is known for its innovative dishes, using fresh locally sourced produce wherever possible and the festive menu lives up to this reputation.

Starters range from butternut squash & sweet potato soup and sauteed black pudding and bacon to crispy vegetables in tempura, pheasant and caramelised onion terrine and sea bass and dill cake.

The main courses include the traditional roast turkey breast with all the trimmings, or diners can choose from roast cod loin with Mediterranean flavours, eight-hour venison in Merlot, puy lentil and winter roots tagine or roast red pepper, goat’s cheese, red onion and tomato tart.

The desserts include classic Christmas pudding, Mulled Berry Muddle, chocolate truffle with cherries in Kirsch and a chocolate sauce, warm apple and cinnamon tart and Tartufo Amalfi Limoncello.

Diners can enjoy their choices with a wine from The Royal Oak’s selection, or one of the pub’s cask ales, traditional beers and ciders, or from a wide range of spirits.

The Christmas Menu will be served from 30 November to 21 December, Tuesday to Saturday. For more information and to book call 01604 890922.
