Family business is flying high

THE Raven, one of Corby’s favourite landmarks, is thriving through ensuring it offers so much more than a good pint.

Major investment by its owners means the recently refurbished hall is ideal for a conference, exhibition or training day.

THE Raven, one of Corby’s favourite landmarks, is thriving through ensuring it offers so much more than a good pint.

Major investment by its owners means the recently refurbished hall is ideal for a conference, exhibition or training day.

The sensitive refurbishment has been coordinated by manager Glen Wetherell and his sister Louise, the venue’s wedding and events manager. They took over the day-to-day running of the Rockingham Road based business from parents Elaine and Bip, who has earned an impressive reputation in the leisure industry.

Since the couple bought the business in 1995 it has undergone major changes to ensure it meets the needs of today’s demanding clientele while still retaining its character. There are two areas dedicated to larger groups – the ballroom and the Raven Hall suite.

Bespoke chandeliers hang in the stunning 1936 ballroom with its wooden sprung floor. It comes complete with a full stage area with a built-in sound system and huge 2.5 metre projector screen. It has a separate lounge area and capacity to seat up to 175.

The additional suite can be opened up if more space is required or used independently for more personal conference and training needs.

Other facilities at The Raven include free wifi, a well-stocked bar with four real ales, beer garden and Sky viewing. A piano bar creates a welcoming atmosphere for regulars and people from out of town who might have opted to stay in one of the hotel’s 18 bedrooms.

Freshly prepared food is available for a meal with family and friends or can be coordinated for an event – weddings are another speciality for The Raven.

Glen said: “There really is so much going on at The Raven to ensure all our customers make the most of their visit. It is important to us that our services meet all their needs and we can ensure all the planning is in place to make sure an event or conference is a success.”
