Winter of content

LONG-established Wellingborough-based Watson and Cox Construction Limited head into their 47th year of business with a very positive outlook.

Summer has been a very successful period for the company, during which time they have secured a variety of new projects. These new projects include a new church in Northampton, a private nursery in Milton Keynes, a new hall and additional classrooms at a school in Leighton Buzzard, an extension to a care home near Cambridge, a fit out and external upgrade to an industrial unit in Leicester and a new social housing development in South Northamptonshire.

Along with the projects they currently have on site, which include a £2.5m NCC Contractors’ Framework project in Kettering and a number of community buildings on the North West Cambridge Expansion Project a busy autumn and winter lie ahead leading into a very encouraging 2018.

Bill Gardiner, Watson & Cox’s Managing Director said: “Being busy is one good thing but staying busy at a consistent level is another. Our work comes from a combination of competitive tenders and negotiated opportunities. It is essential that we work hard to keep the number of enquiries high. The number of tenders we received over the summer holiday period dropped but we are now back to receiving a healthy number of enquiries including a number of good potential negotiation opportunities, some of which are in the private residential sector where developers are seeking a design and build turn-key service”.

In addition to their main contracting activities, Watson & Cox Construction’s residential development subsidiary, Watson & Cox Homes is nearing the completion of a private residential development in Mears Ashby, one of Northamptonshire’s most sought after villages.

This is a development of seven high-quality bespoke residences, three of which are barn conversions with the other four being new-build properties built in the style of the original farm yard buildings. An artist’s illustration of one of the units is shown here. The development will be complete early 2018 and already considerable interest is being shown by prospective purchasers.
