Shedding light on money saving alternatives

EVERYONE wants to save money on their electricity costs and innovative products are making that a realistic proposition – but without expert advice you may be doing more harm than good.

KwikLite in Brixworth specialises in LED lighting, offering a service that will assess and design lighting systems as well as installing and maintaining them – providing advice at the outset that will help achieve a more effective outcome.

The company was founded 10 years ago by Graham Parr, simply as a lighting installation and maintenance company that was mainly called in by customers to replace lights, repair fittings and install new lighting.

Over the years, however, and reacting to a new focus on reducing carbon footprint and cutting electricity usage, KwikLite has developed into a source of skills, advice and products that improve customers’ working environment while paying for themselves.

Last year, Graham brought in Energy Lighting and Business Manager Eli Ward to take the energy efficiency message to an increasing customer base.

Eli explained: “Products are developing all the time and LED lights that were once very expensive are now incredibly cost effective, reducing pay-back times considerably.

“But there’s more to it than simply replacing all the lights in your workplace with new LED versions. It is possible to have too much light. Every environment has an optimum lighting level – called a LUX value – and too much is as bad as too little. If it’s not right, it’s not good for the people working under it, and it could be costing more than you need to be paying.

“KwikLite offer a mathematical and engineered solution to optimise the design based on the LUX level requirements of the business – we are bespoke, which in turn saves the customer on its outlay.”

KwikLite will carry out an assessment of a workplace and advise on what system would work best. The customer will be given calculations of costs, including how long it will take to pay back the cost of the improvement work based on energy savings, and once agreed, the KwikLite team will install the new lights, which all come with a UK warranty that means free replacement should they fail within the timespan of the warranty.

Eli added: “Each enquiry is treated individually and we have clients ranging from those who require storage lighting at 100 lux to clients who want 2,000 lux for inspection and food related industries. We have worked with many blue chip companies, including the likes of Electrolux, 3M and McCains and with smaller firms, and whatever their size, we are confident we can go in and find a solution that works with their requirements and budget.”
