Still going strong

AS one of Northamptonshire’s most recognised transport and warehousing businesses, C Butt Ltd has a history to be proud of.

It started life as far back as the early 1920s when Charles Butt moved from market gardening to haulage, utilising an old WW1 truck he bought shortly after leaving the army. Joining forces with his nephew William Butt, C Butt Ltd was officially formed in 1926.

Historically based around the St James End part of town the two eventually settled on a base off Spencer Bridge Road in the 1950s.

Many knew the depot fondly as the The Mill due it being the site of an old working water mill. However, given this was the days of industry before heritage, this soon gave way to warehousing and a lorry park. Another change came in the early 2000s with a move up the road to Lodge Farm Ind Est in Duston.

C Butt Ltd prides itself on being flexible and has certainly had many and varied operations in its history, with tipper work helping build Northamptonshire to what it is today and bringing raw leather from London’s docks back to the leather factories that once used to flourish within the town being only two.

From small beginnings C Butt Ltd are now nationally recognised and known as a Northamptonshire business with national and international reach. Depots all around the country ensure daily deliveries are made and all with a family background of service as a priority.

Jonathan and Robert Butt took over as Joint Managing Directors in May last year, the first time the Butt name has been at the head of the company since the 1990s. Still very much under the eye and guidance of Williams Butt’s son, Gerald Butt, the C Butt Ltd Chairman, C Butt Ltd will continue into the future with its well-known green and red livery for many years to come.
