MAKING happy memories are at the heart of the success of Jack & Jill Day Nursery which is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

The Ofsted-registered nursery, originally opened for business in Rushden’s Grove Road in 1986, before moving to larger premises in the former youth centre in the town’s Moor Road. Now more than 200 children, from three months to five years with up to 90 attending at any one time, are welcomed by the team where the emphasis is on encouraging each child to grow and learn in a happy environment.

The building, originally a school, has plenty of space for play inside and outside. The latest project is to further develop the extensive outdoor areas.  This includes a dedicated area for two year olds which includes a giant sand pit, and an area just for babies. In another space pre-school children are able to play on a large artificial grass area, and most exciting of all, explore the wonderful natural wild garden with trees, flowers and insect. An outdoor covered area is also available for pre-school children to use throughout the year.

Through the decades the children have changed but the team has notched up long service with three members of the middle management team working together at the nursery for a combined service of more than 50 years.  In addition to this the manager Jayne Broadway has been at the nursery from the first day and fellow manager Tanya Sidorowska-Jenkinson  has worked at the nursery for 23 years.

Many of the parents remember coming to the building when it was a youth centre and, said Jayne: “We love welcoming the children and working with families who are new to the nursery but it is also good to welcome back parents who we can remember attended the nursery when they were younger.

“We are proud to have a low turnover of qualified staff and train many apprentices in early years’ education and care.”

Families are encouraged to be involved with their child’s development and records by accessing their linked Learning Book online, along with day-to-day feedback and termly parents evenings.
