Ideal location for network roll out

CITYFIBRE have chosen Brackmills as the base for their new office as part of a £40m investment in a revolutionary new fibre optic network, making Northampton one of the best-connected places in the country.

The new open network, which will see homes in Northampton able to access gigabit broadband speeds, will allow for greater home working, instant access to services and more reliable connections. Vodafone UK will be using CityFibre’s network to bring Vodafone Gigafast Broadband services to the town. Currently, fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) is only available to less than eight per cent of premises across the UK and less than one per cent in Northampton. It is recognised as the best in connectivity for its speed, near unlimited bandwidth and reliability.

By using fibre optic cables for every stage of the connection from the home or business to the Internet, users will be offered a significantly superior and more reliable broadband service, and enables future technologies like 5G, Internet of Things and Smart City applications.

Piloting new-build techniques to deploy the network quickly, while working closely with local councils and communities to manage disruption and ensure a fast and successful roll-out. The new network, will build on and enhance CityFibre’s existing metro network covering the estate, offering unrivalled connectivity and choices to the businesses on the estate.

James Cushing, City Manager, said: “Brackmills is an ideal location for our Northampton base, with great connectivity and world leading business as neighbours. Our new office, which will be the base for Northampton operations and planning, demonstrates our commitment to the town and is the start of our significant investment in the area.

“There is a thriving tech community in the town and we are working with partners such as Digital Northampton to promote the amazing businesses already here. This is great news for the town and our investment will help to power the tech business of the future.”

Research commissioned by CityFibre forecasts that new gigabit services for homes and business could boost the Northampton economy by well over £120m over the next decade.
