Keeping everyone safe

FOR the sake of everyone’s safety – storage and racking systems must be inspected at least annually to conform with industry legislation.

Lionel Drage has more than 40 years’ experience in the storage and materials handling industry and founded Birchmoor Associates to in 1986 to supply and install storage equipment.

In 2006, he founded SafetySurvey.co.uk as a subsidiary division, specialising in racking safety inspections and specialist training, following his qualification as a SEMA* Approved Rack Inspector

“Racking that has been damaged can be liable to collapse, with devastating results, and for that reason all damage should be reported and checked by suitably trained personnel. In addition, all racking must be inspected annually by a technical competent person under PUWER regulations.”

The Rushden-based company’s inspections are completely independent and provide a fully illustrated report, physical identification or all damage, a bill of materials for the client’s selected repairer and impartial advice on technical racking and storage issues.

All types of storage racks are routinely inspected and training seminars are offered for Rack Safety Awareness, Racking Maintenance, Working at Height, Safety Harness Awareness and Manual Handling.

In 2011, Lionel was appointed as an approved SEMA training specialist to present SEIRS racking safety initiative courses.

Lionel added: “Safety in the workplace is a top priority to most employers, but it is also a legal obligation and insurers are increasingly asking for proof of racking inspections to mitigate their risk.

“Our pallet racking inspections and Safety Awareness Training will help compliance with the legal requirements and the requirements of insurers, it may also help reduce your insurance premiums.”
