THREE highly trained senior engineers at Stanair Industrial Doors have become City and Guilds Levels 2 and 3 certified electricians as the company continues to invest in its workforce.

Although the electrical aspect of installing, maintaining and repairing doors is a regular feature of the Stanair team's work and all engineers are fully trained in the skills they need, the company took the decision to formalise the training by putting the trio through the City and Guilds exams.

Harry Curtis, who has been with the Kettering-based company for nine years, said: "The qualification benefits me and the company. I didn't have any qualifications when I joined the company, so it's great for me to have training that is recognised worldwide and to have a trade I can fall back on should I need it."

His colleague, Lee McEwan, who has been with Stanair for three and a half years, added: "With this qualification I'm heading in the right direction in my career. We are trained in electrics, but I want to know the ins and outs of the trade. It was tough, because for two years we were doing a full day's work and then taking classes in the evening twice a week, but it has been well worth it."

Alex Page began working at Stanair 18 months ago after already studying for his Level 2 certificate, and joined his colleagues for the second year of their course. He said: "I was part of the way through the training, so I carried on when I joined Stanair. There's a lot of electrical work involved in our jobs, so it's right to have a proper qualification that recognises that."

Stanair Director Martin Wall said: "Our engineers are trained in-house and have all the skills they need to work on customers' doors, but we decided to ensure the guys had a formal qualification that enhances the work they do for us and also because we believe in investing in our people and their careers."
