Eco-friendly warehouse under way

CONSTRUCTION of an £8.5m eco-friendly warehouse unit is under way at a major industrial estate in Northampton, national commercial property consultancy Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) has announced.

Aviva Investors, the global asset management business of Aviva plc, has started the development of a 58,000 square foot industrial/warehouse unit at Swan Valley Way.

The unit is being built to the highest specifications and will include environmentally friendly features such as electric vehicle charging points and a photo-voltaic array on the roof, generating electricity to power energy efficient lights and heating. It is expected to reach practical completion in September.

LSH has been appointed, with joint letting agents with Avison Young, to market the new unit.

James Hill, industrial agency director at LSH in Northampton, said: “It’s fantastic to see work start on site to deliver this unit, which will provide accommodation of an exceptionally high standard at one of the region’s leading distribution locations.

“Aviva Investors has committed to building a warehouse unit which will be at the cutting edge of design and energy efficiency, reducing its climate impact, which will appeal to a wide range of potential occupiers. With its location next to a lake, it also provides an excellent environment for employees.

“Warehouse units of this quality are extremely rare and are highly sought after so we are expecting there to be a great deal of demand from companies interested in relocating or expanding at this highly regarded distribution park.”

The unit will be known as Odette58, a reference to a character in the Swan Lake ballet. Aviva is acting as developer on the scheme. LSH has acted for Aviva on the site for many years and also acts for them in other areas across the country.

Aviva Investors is the global asset management business of Aviva plc. The business delivers investment management solutions, services and client-driven performance to clients worldwide. Aviva Investors operates in 14 countries in Asia Pacific, Europe, North America and the UK, with assets under management of £348 billion.
