MADE in Dagenham is based on the true story of the 1968 strike at the Ford Dagenham car plant, where female workers walked out in protest against sexual discrimination.
The strike was influential in the passing of the Equal Pay Act of 1970 and the musical focuses on the leader of the strike, Rita O’Grady, as she encourages the women of the Ford factory to walk out after they are re-classified as unskilled workers, while their male counterparts see their wages increase. See her fight with the TUC conference and the help that Barbara Castle gave them. As its inside a factory there is a lot of strong language and raucous fun.
There’s a chance to meet the Essex girls who changed the world in Northampton Musical Theatre Company’s production Made in Dagenham.

The show will run from 29 October to 2 November at Royal & Derngate. Tickets are from £12.
For those who love a good traditional singalong, the company’s old time musical on Sunday, 23 June at 7pm is perfect. Audience members, who are encouraged to dress up, will be able to sing along when the cast recreate the flamboyant spirit of those bygone days. Tickets are £16.
