New venture for literary festival

TAKING a cue from its rather grand neighbours, just down the road at Althorp, the organisers of Earls Barton Literary Festival have decided to stage a festival during the middle weekend of the fortnight-long Village Festival in June.

All the performers have a connection with Northamptonshire, they either live or have lived here (some in Earls Barton itself), work here (some in Earls Barton itself) or were born here.

Those taking part include poets, authors, actors, singers, educationists, story-tellers, craft-makers and musicians. They will perform in venues in the centre of the village, including two of the lovely churches and, of course, the library.

Visitors can choose to attend a single event or buy a ticket for a day or the whole weekend.

The festival has been sponsored by both the parish council and a local Rotary group. Rotary are helping to organise a children’s writing competition for this event. A link for this will be available from the website very soon.

A programme and booking form is available in the library and some events have a limited availability so it’s wise to book promptly to avoid disappointment.

If any venues have capacity, tickets will be available during the weekend on 10 and 11 June. They are also available online at www.wegottickets.com – type in Earls Barton Literary Festival to take a look.

The Grand Finale of the weekend will be the welcome return of James Hornsby. Having performed A Christmas Carol in December, James has agreed to close the event on Sunday evening, in All Saints Church, with a performance of Great Expectations. Tickets for this will be available in the library or online for just £5 per head.
