Seeing youngsters are well served

WHILE always remaining at the cutting edge of optical technology, Sheinman Opticians also prides itself on being a friendly and open practice where customers feel welcome and well cared for.

Founded by AE Turville OBE in 1915, Sheinman is regarded as one of the foremost independent optical practices in the UK, but its links to the Northamptonshire community are at the heart of its work.

This is borne out in the practice’s new Young Vision programme, designed to make young people aware that their vision, eyecare and fashion are just as important as an adult’s.

With this in mind, the Abington Street practice has recently remodelled its children’s eyewear area using an outdoors theme, including a bright, open plan area with grass, butterflies and interactive tablets to keep young customers engaged while they are at their appointments.

There is also a greatly expanded range of kids and teen frames including Rayban and Lacoste junior and specialist paediatric frames from Tomato Glasses.

All junior eyewear also comes with free PNX lenses. Lenses are free under the NHS but Sheinman offers a free upgrade to PNX, a lens material that is super strong, highly shock resistant and virtually unbreakable. It also offers 100 per cent protection against harmful UV radiation. Perfect for protecting young eyes!

Young and old alike are part of a large customer base at Sheinman Opticians, which has a long history of in-house clinical research and development and continues today through its internet company EyeLab Ltd, reaching well beyond the practice’s own Northampton database of more than 40,000 patients.

Advanced medical and ophthalmic equipment plus enhanced state-of-the-art eyewear facilities, combine to deliver the best eye-care treatment and the very latest collections of fashion frames and superior lens technology.

Although the testing and treatment of eyes is now extremely high-tech and computerised, many of the principles invented or developed by AE Turville and John Sheinman are still incorporated in the electronic equipment of today.
