Striding out in support of the community

THE team at Wollaston BMW & MINI is in its fourth year of fundraising in support of the local Northamptonshire community, and looks set to pass through the £70,000 mark cumulatively with its efforts in 2017.

Twenty members of staff are in training for the upcoming Northampton half-marathon, with their efforts this year again in support of Earls Barton based children’s cancer charity NC TLC.

“I am amazingly proud of what the Wollaston team has achieved recently in support of the local community,” said Head of Business, David Glover, pictured (far left) at the NC TLC Fantasy Christmas break, funded by Wollaston’s charitable activities.

“We helped 21 families going through really difficult times have a three-day break at Butlins late last year, and we’re raising funds to make their 2017 adventure even more special.”

As well as the planned half-marathon, Wollaston has organised a charity golf competition this month at the Northampton Golf Club, with the winners going on to represent the retailer in the BMW Golf Cup International later in the year. Similar activities, along with extremely well-attended charity auction events hosted jointly at The Old House Restaurant & The Lighthouse on Wellingborough Road, have helped raise significant funds in support of great local causes.

According to David, Wollaston’s proudest achievement was when four members of the team cycled 1,000 miles from BMW’s HQ in Munich back to Northampton. The funds raised helped to purchase a ground-breaking plasma exchange machine to treat kidney disease at Northampton General Hospital.

“The team were bowled over when they heard local man, Stuart Ferguson’s story of how his life was saved on the machine we’d provided, and thrilled when he planned to celebrate his recovery on a new BMW Motorcycle from Wollaston,” said David. “We’re keen to keep our local charitable activities going strong again this year.”
