WELLINGBOROUGH-based Chartered Quantity Surveyors and Project Managers Tompkins Robinson Surveyors (TRS) have found themselves working throughout the UK in the last 12 months for one particular client.

TRS act for insurance giants Aviva on office fit-out and refurbishment projects. They are currently providing QS and PM services on projects in the Isle of Man, Leeds, Bristol, Dorking and many points in between.

Their most recent appointment is on 1 Undershaft, which is Aviva’s London HQ and sits between such iconic buildings as Lloyds, 30 St. Mary Axe (The Gherkin) and 122 Leadenhall Street (The Cheesegrater). TRS are very proud of their long association with Aviva, which goes back to the Norwich Union days and started with a local refurbishment at Moulton Park in Northampton.

TRS Director David Morris is the key point of contact for all the Aviva projects. He said: “We have built up a good relationship with Aviva’s property team and they like the commitment we bring to all their projects. The practice is small enough to care about delivering all their schemes on time and on budget. We are flexible enough to work with Aviva’s procurement team and to adopt the procedures and on-line tendering process their organisation demands.”

A lot of TRS’s work is local, but certain international clients, like Aviva and The Royal British Legion, employ them across the UK. David Morris explains: “With Aviva we can receive a phone call on the Friday and be on site in Leeds two days later looking at providing a fast track, office fit-out for 100 people who are moving due to a lease break on an existing premises. In Bristol, we have just completed a cafe and restaurant to accommodate 120 people that had to be finished before Easter. We managed to finish under budget and early – the first latte was served on 27th March!”

TRS have seen an increase in demand for their QS services across all sectors of the industry. They act for both public and private clients and on projects ranging from small scale school extensions up to multi million pound social housing schemes.

David Morris concluded: “We build relationships with clients and work together to deliver successful projects. Building is complicated and every job is different. Our collaborative approach and commitment ensures that the many challenges, on and off site, are addressed and resolved.”

There is uncertainty forecast in construction over the next couple of years, largely due to Brexit. Whilst the Building Cost Information Service (BCIS) anticipate a levelling off of tender prices, there appears to be no uncertainty over the demand for the sort of cost control services and hands-on project management TRS provide.
