AN innovative idea which is helping business to achieve major savings on the cost of air freight and fuel is enabling The Alternative Pallet Company to grow its list of clients.

Company founder Graham Hayes has been working with industry experts to develop the variations of the fibreboard pallet, PALLITE(r). He set up the company in 2008 and since then it has grown into a thriving enterprise based at its 40,000 square feet facility at the Park Farm North industrial estate in Wellingborough.

At the heart of its success is PALLITE(r) which is available in UK standard, Euro and bespoke sizes. The PALLITES(r) are engineered using high density honeycomb, laminated with quality Kraft liners, combined with the latest core winding technology and manufacturing techniques to produce an advanced alternative to wood or plastic.

Newly appointed Managing Director Patrick Mulhall, known as Paddy, is keen for businesses including those working in the competitive logistics industry, to recognise the real benefits of using products from the range.

Key benefits include:

Major savings on air freight and fuel costs

Lightweight – from just 6.5kg it helps reduce injuries through ease of handling

Robust – capability of carrying over a tonne with stacking strength of up to 7 tonnes

Carbon reductions – contributes to commercial savings

100 per cent recyclable after use so can provide a source of income from recyclers

Free from nails, splinters, infestation and harmful chemicals that can cause product contamination so it is suitable for the food

and pharmaceutical industries.

ISPM15 Exempt – reducing import and export compliance costs

Compatible with automated systems – able to use on existing pallet conveyors

Paddy said: “We currently have a strong team of 15 that are contributing to the growth of an exciting and entrepreneurial manufacturing business. The aim over the next two years is to increase staff numbers to 40 plus and find a second site in the Wellingborough area.”

The company is keen to play an active part in the community and recent initiatives have included sponsoring Wellingborough Town Football Club.
