Wellingborough businesses are being invited to have a direct say in growth priorities for the area as part of a new campaign badged Enterprising Wellingborough. The Wellingborough Chamber of Commerce is encouraging firms to participate in research which aims to highlight key development constraints and identify ways to grow the town. The findings will be used to help bid for a slice of the £100 million funding available through the Northamptonshire Enterprise Partnership and South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership. Wellingborough businesses are being invited to have a direct say in growth priorities for the area as part of a new campaign badged Enterprising Wellingborough. The Wellingborough Chamber of Commerce is encouraging firms to participate in research which aims to highlight key development constraints and identify ways to grow the town. The findings will be used to help bid for a slice of the £100 million funding available through the Northamptonshire Enterprise Partnership and South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership. A business breakfast briefing has been organised on 6 December between 7.30am and 9.30am, in Wellingborough, to feedback the results from the questionnaire and also to highlight the opportunities for businesses if a growth plan is supported. It is all part of Enterprising Wellingborough, which has been launched by the chamber’s new president James Wilson. He said: “The Wellingborough Chamber of Commerce is leaving no stone unturned in order to engage with local businesses regarding the future growth and infrastructure priorities for our borough. “We feel Wellingborough has massive potential with over 7,000 houses with planning consent, the commencement of electrification of the Midland Mainline and being part of one of the fastest growing counties. “However, we also have major challenges. We have been losing jobs over the past decade at a rate of 200 per year, which runs counter to the surrounding prevailing growth, principally due to a lack of available commercial premises. Part of our problem is phasing and funding key infrastructure projects to kick start the stalled urban extensions which release employment sites. “We are canvassing local companies to identify what their priorities are to make Wellingborough a more competitive business location.
