Centre nears completion

WITH Moulton College still buzzing from hosting the recent launch of the Carlsberg UK Northamptonshire Food and Drink Awards, attention is very much on the completion of the college’s new Food and Drink Innovation Centre.

The number of food and drink businesses in the region is growing rapidly, and Moulton has responded to the significant skills gap in an industry that currently employs over 57,000 people locally by creating a range of brand new courses that will be taught in a state-of-the-art hub containing professional kitchens, testing labs, a bakery and even a micro-brewery.

Interest in the new courses is already high, with a large number of applications already made for the variety of areas that Moulton will be offering from September, which include diplomas in professional bakery, food technology, and food, nutrition and health.

For those who already have a background in the industry, the college will also be running foundation and bachelor’s degrees in Food Science and Technology, and Food Operations and Management.

On top of this, there will be a range of industry-accredited short, part-time courses available, giving people the opportunity to increase their skills set and knowledge of areas such as food safety in a flexible environment around their current jobs.

All of the food and drink courses at Moulton College are designed to provide progression towards employment within this thriving industry, and offer a balanced structure between theory and practical work. Potential career paths for students include roles as a food technologist, food engineer, food scientist, professional baker or nutritionist.

For more information on all of the food and drink courses that will be running at Moulton College, and details of the open day on Saturday 23 June, visit www.moulton.ac.uk
