Excellent food is there for all to see

ALWAYS a favourite with those who like traditional Asian food, a Northampton restaurant is aiming to widen its appeal with a new look and a new style.

Formerly Zam Zam, Paprika is now run by Suheab Rahman and while the quality and range of the food remains just as good, a few changes have been made.

Suheab said: “We have a strong loyal customer base and since we took over a lot of people have been asking if it would be possible to bring their own drinks in to enjoy with their meal.

“So we are now inviting people to bring their own alcohol with them if they wish. We don’t put any service charge on for that, and it’s proving very popular with the customers, and bringing in a few new customers, too.”

The highly trained kitchen team at Paprika serve up a range of dishes that includes all the usual favourites, but with the addition of a selection of grilled dishes that offer a health alternative.

While all the preparation work goes on in the kitchen downstairs, the cooking happens right in front of the customers’ eyes in the ground floor open kitchen, right at the front of the Kettering Road restaurant.

Large grills and tandoori ovens are used to prepare such dishes as shawarmas (thin slices of lamb or chicken marinated in spices and olive oil and then grilled) and grilled salmon bhuna, which is cooked in a tandoori oven and then served with a bhuna sauce.

Suheab said: “We have all the classic Indian dishes but we want to offer something a little bit different as well. And it’s always interesting to watch the chefs at work, as well. Because many dishes are freshly grilled to order, there is a short wait, but most people don’t mind that.”

Paprika is spread over two floors, with the first floor, which seats up to 35 people, available for private bookings for large groups and family celebrations.

On Sundays, there’s a special all-you-can-eat buffet from 1.30pm to 11pm for £9.95 per person while the Wednesday Feast is a five course meal of starter, main, vegetable side dish, rice or naan and tea or coffee, for £8.95.

As well as restaurant bookings, Paprika offers a take-away service, with free delivery within a five-mile radius for orders over £12.

There’s also a 20 per cent discount on online orders.
