Pints pull in the crowds

MAY will once again see the Wellingborough Chamber Waendel Beer Festival held at the All Saints Church Hall, Midland Road in Wellingborough.

As always there will be more than 40 real ales and ciders for visitors to enjoy at the event, which runs from 10 to 12 May. The organisers always like to have a good mix of ales and although some will be from breweries within a 20-mile radius many will also come from much further afield.

It is too early to announce the full range but rest assured there will be many you have never tried before. As this year sees the 100th anniversary of the RAF, there will be a few beers dedicated to this.

For a change this year the usual music round-up has been changed. On the Thursday, an eccentric musical troubadour by the name of Steve Barbe will be appearing. Steve knows exactly how to entertain people in his unique way and as an acoustic musician he will have a few surprises up his sleeve. On Thursday night, regular drinkers like to sit or stand and enjoy a pint or ten without too much noise, so Steve is the ideal person to warm everyone up for the weekend.

On Friday night, the PommyGranites, a brilliant band with music from the Sixties, Seventies, Eighties, Nineties and up to date, will take to the stage with a fabulous choice of songs.

Saturday night will see, for the first time at the festival, The Bozeat City Rollers, a unique blend of rock and pop without the Rollers’ songs. These guys are great entertainment so visitors can get up and dance if they want to as the evening rolls on.

It is hoped that a full afternoon entertainment programme will be available on Saturday so watch out for more news soon via the website.

Barrel sponsors are needed, so do get in touch with the organisers if you would like to sponsor a barrel for just £35. In return, you get a couple of free tickets, four pints of ale and your logo on the barrel and in the programme.

The organisers would like to thank glass sponsors, Evans Cooke Solicitors, Nigel Davis Property Services and The Coach & Horses, and are still seeking an entertainment sponsor so if you would like major publicity for your company, get in touch with festival organiser Alan Piggot on 07939 058897 or email him at

The festival opens on Thursday 10 May at 4pm and on Friday and Saturday at midday, every night finishes at midnight.
