So many treats on offer

A CUP of tea mid-morning, a leisurely lunch or an afternoon ice-cream treat – whatever you’re looking for, they’re all available under one roof at Jeyes of Earls Barton.

A favourite with locals and visitors from far and wide, Jeyes of Earls Barton has grown from what was, 32 years ago, simply the family pharmacy into somewhere to while away hours on end.

The Apothocoffee Shop, named Independent Cafe/Tea Room at the Carlsberg UK Northamptonshire Food and Drink Awards in 2013/14 and F&B Achiever of the Year at last year’s ceremony, serves lunches, snacks and award-winning cakes, as well as a range of specialist teas and coffees.

The coffee shop is partly housed in the light and airy conservatory and, if they weather permits, tables in the gardens allow visitors to make the most of the sunshine.

Last year saw the successful opening of the Jeylato’s ice cream bar. Eight flavours of ice cream and two sorbets from award winning ice cream producers Marshfield Farm, who use milk from their own cows and turn it into delicious ice cream within an hour of milking, are on offer.

Part of Jeylato’s has been designed with children in mind, and the Tractor Ted seating area helps children learn a little bit more about dairies and farming and where their creamy treat came from as they enjoy their ice cream.

For those who want the best of both worlds, Jeylato’s will be serving traditional Italian affogato – two scoops of vanilla ice cream topped with a shot of hot, strong espresso coffee and for a cold day, try melting ice cream on top of a thick, warm waffle.

If anyone wants to linger before or after their tasty treats, Jeyes of Earls Barton has a host of attractions, including a gift shop, a pharmacy museum, a miniature mechanical funfair and a display of Rupert Bear collectables, a tiny Royal Family exhibition room, a museum devoted to life in Earls Barton through the Victorian times to the years after the end of the Second World War and a dolls house shop, The Dolly Lodge.

Jeyes of Earls Barton is in The Square, Earls Barton, NN6 0NA and is open Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm. Telephone 01604 810289 or visit the website www.jeyesofearlsbarton.co.uk
