Having each given up their jobs in late 2013 to launch Doorstep Baking, the pair have seen their business venture grow into not only artisan baking mixes for baking at home, but also celebration cakes and a successful cold buffet catering division, Doorstep Sandwich, that is perfect for businesses looking to lay on a spread for a meeting, presentation or celebration.
Over the past 18 months or so, Doorstep Baking has taken advantage of groups like Made In Northamptonshire, the food producer’s networking group, to ensure their skills in food are backed up by solid business advice and guidance on issues such as food labelling.
“It was a daunting prospect, going it alone, but we knew we had a good idea and we built on that,” said Cheryl. “Our first product was a brownie mix that led to us being shortlisted for the Carlsberg Northamptonshire Food and Drink Awards last year.
“The baking mixes, packaged in attractive jars or mugs, have proved popular as gifts and they’re in a number of retailers, including Beckworth Emporium, but we are also incredibly busy providing cold buffets for clients across Northamptonshire.
“We take pride in the quality of the food and, more importantly, label everything clearly so that anyone going to the buffet table can see immediately what’s on offer, so if they’re vegetarian or have food allergies, they don’t have to seek out the organiser to check what they can and can’t eat.”
