Case Study – Solar

Dataracks is a leading manufacturer of data storage hardware, including server racks and wallboxes. They are the only European manufacturer of cabinets optimised for cooling efficiency. With a strong commitment to improving environmental performance it was a natural progression for Dataracks to look to alternative forms of energy to improve their environmental performance and give energy cost savings. They installed a 150kW solar PV system that provides a significant amount of the energy used in the factory but not 100 per cent due to due to grid restrictions. The total annual saving is a substantial £28,480 producing a return on investment of 20 per cent and a pay back of five years. A significant saving of 73 tonnes of carbon emissions makes a further addition to Dataracks green credentials.

Case Study – Biomas/Solar

AMIC Haulage specialise in freight transport by road and having a large carbon footprint. AMIC were keen to reduce this and in turn reduce energy costs. In particular, it was key to be able to heat large parts of the warehouse space that had previously been uneconomic to heat. In order to achieve AMIC’s aims, Environmental Energies employed a dual approach to the problem using solar and biomass technology combined. A 100kW Herz boiler and 17kWs of roof-mounted solar were installed. The new heating boiler was seamlessly linked to the existing traditional heating system and water to air coil space heaters were used in the warehouse areas, with the solar PV providing the power. The resulting savings, in excess of £20,000 per annum, will be achieved on energy bills, the warehouses areas that were previously uneconomic to heat are now warm, and the businesses carbon footprint has been significantly reduced.
