Businesses are forging ahead

By Phil Harris

WHEN it comes to predicting the future, if there’s one thing we’ve learned over the past few years it’s to expect the unexpected.

We go into 2019 with a Brexit plan that is in progress and with UK economic growth currently running three times faster than that of the EU. Despite all the uncertainty of how the final trade deal will look, it seems that UK businesses have forged ahead.

Leaving the EU at the end of March won’t be the end of the story, there’s still much to do, but we will begin to be a little clearer about what the eventual trading arrangements will be.

Whatever happens, businesses will adapt their plans and strategies accordingly. Market conditions have always fluctuated, and the current situation is no different. Those businesses that can adapt to changing markets, changing needs and changing political landscapes will continue to succeed.

SMEs have to ensure that the right structures and working practices are in place so that if and when difficulties do arise, the right responses can easily be accommodated. Businesses also need to make sure help and advice is readily at hand, to guide them through a likely period of radical change.

At Harris & Co Chartered Accountants we believe in providing clear and effective financial guidance, becoming a part of clients’ businesses – seeing the whole picture so that Harris & Co is as much a part of building for the future as identifying and dealing with issues and problems.

We work with many small and medium sized businesses, and our focus is on passing on the experience we gained from growing ourselves from a small business to a medium sized business.

Our aim has always been to ensure clients get a flexible, responsive service that’s tailored to match their individual business accounting, advisory and tax requirements.

The fixed-fee structure means that costs can be budgeted for in advance and there are no unpleasant surprises when the bill comes in. Our clients know that we are on hand to deliver help and guidance whenever they need it, so they get timely advice that they can act upon immediately, without having to worry about how much it’s going to cost them.
