Merger is a major step forward

ONE of Northamptonshire’s leading accountancy firms has made a significant step forward in its five-year growth plan with the purchase of another of the region’s well-respected practices.

Elsby & Co, which has offices in Sywell, Market Harborough and Milton Keynes, has acquired Trevor L Newell & Co in Rushden which employs a team of nine and has a client base of 600.

For Carl Elsby, who set up the firm 24 years ago, the purchase advances his desire to see Elsby & Co listed in the top 100 UK accountants index. It is the third acquisition the firm has made since 2008 and takes the firm to a new level of presence in the region.

The purchase will see four professionals from Elsby & Co integrate with the resident team at Trevor L Newell & Co’s Rushden office.

The lead accountants from Elsby & Co managing the merger and client base will be Leona Bateman and Claire Emery. Both are senior managers who have excelled in their careers at the firm’s Sywell headquarters and are looking forward to the responsibility that will go with overseeing the new operation.

The business will be known as Elsby & Co incorporating Trevor L Newell & Co.

Trevor Newell, who founded the practice in 1979, will stay on at the firm while his business partner, Peter Knight will retire with immediate effect.

Carl Elsby said: “The purchase provides us with a very exciting opportunity to combine the great work that Trevor, Peter and the team have achieved while adding value with the systems, knowledge and personnel that we are very proud of at Elsby & Co.

“While our growth affords us new opportunities and great career progression for our staff, we are still, at heart, a family business. Clients will always come first with great customer service at the core of all we do.”

Carl’s plan is to continue to grow the client base in Rushden and to fulfil his promise of exciting and rewarding opportunities for those who work alongside him.

He added: “I used to live in Rushden when my children were small – I have very fond memories of the town. We actually originally set up Elsby & Co in Wollaston so it’s nice to be back.”

Trevor Newell said: “We were very thorough in our choice of Elsby & Co as the people to take the practice forward. Our key consideration is our clients who have been incredibly loyal to the practice for so many years. It is very important to us that we maintain – and even enhance – the level of service they have been used to. I will be personally involved to make sure of that and to ensure as seamless a transition as possible.”
