WELCOME to a new decade. 2020 is upon us. At the time of writing the country was about to go to the polls with the outcome deciding the direction we shall all be taking. Brexit? Deal or No Deal? A people’s vote or even a revocation of Article 50? If the last three years have taught us anything, do not be surprised to expect the unexpected.
So, while there remains a good deal of uncertainty, in 2020 you can still rely upon the strength of Tollers Solicitors as a trusted legal advisor in the marketplace. Into the firms 143rd year of practicing law we continue to look to the future and our investments reflect that.
Throughout those 143 years of history the firm has been an established force in Northamptonshire. In more recent times the firm has been expanding its horizons and building in other markets. In the late summer of 2019, that was reflected with significant investment by the firm in its newest foothold in Hertfordshire.
A new office will follow in early 2020 to house the team of over 40 that now operates out of that geography.
In addition to this investment, the firm has added significantly to its team of qualified lawyers. In December 2019 Damon Watt joined the practice as a Partner. Damon is a market leading specialist in insolvency and corporate recovery. A renowned commercial litigator, Damon qualified in 2001 and brings a wealth of experience to the firm. Damon has been rated in both the Legal 500 and Chambers, is a member of the Insolvency Lawyers Association and is a full member of R3 (The Association of Business Recovery Professionals). He has also passed the Higher Rights Advocacy Assessment.
Damon joins from a highly regarded Milton Keynes practice where he was a partner for well over a decade. His appointment takes Tollers’ insolvency offering to the market to another level as he joins forces with Managing Partner Duncan Nicholson who has around 20 years of experience in insolvency law. Few, if any, firms in Tollers’ markets can match their strength in this particular team.
Tollers have also appointed Rebecca Briam as a Senior Associate Solicitor, and Solicitor Saiqa Sarwar to the firm’s growing corporate team headed by Craig Harrison. Despite the uncertainty that Brexit and the election has given rise to, Craig has reported that the activity in terms of corporate transactions remains buoyant. The need to recruit two more senior solicitors to the Tollers team is reflective of that.
The trends also extend to Tollers’ Private Client team. In November 2019 Paul Belliere-Wilson joined as a Senior Associate from a leading regional practice. Paul, who specialises in wills, probate, estate and tax planning, is based in Tollers’ Northampton office and his appointment reflects the success of the Tollers team in this area of legal practice.
