New president

IKA Castka, Partner at Wilson Browne Solicitors, has been appointed President of the Northamptonshire Law Society.

The Northamptonshire Law Society was formed in 1879 and since then has represented the legal profession in Northamptonshire providing a focal point for solicitors in the county.

It is not a local branch of the Law Society of England & Wales (the statutory body responsible for regulating the legal profession), but rather an independent organisation which maintains an interest in all matters that have an effect on its members at a local or national level. Where appropriate it makes representations on behalf of its members and additionally provides training and support.

Ika was admitted as a solicitor in 1986 and since that date has always worked in the county, moving to Wilson Browne in 1999.

Ika said: “I am proud to have been appointed as President, following in the footsteps of many notable legal figures in the county, one of whom was our dear friend, colleague and Partner Fiona Moore. She was well known throughout Northamptonshire and a real character who is greatly missed by all who worked with her.

“I am looking forward to my time in office, representing the legal community not only within the county but also working with neighbouring Law Societies.

“There are many changes affecting the legal profession today and many challenges ahead; it is therefore important that the Northamptonshire Law Society and my fellow Council members work together to keep abreast of the changes and represent the interests of its members.”
