Time to review those policies

EMPLOYMENT policies can be a real thorn in the side for business owners. For some, the policies will have been added to and amended so often that they have become overly complex and difficult to follow. For others, the policies will not have been reviewed for years meaning that they are out of date and at risk of legal challenge. New Years Resolution for 2016 – review those policies!

An effective employment policy has a definite purpose and is easily understood and written in plain, jargon-free English. It will set out the standard of conduct and behaviour that is expected of the employees and will accurately reflect the specific culture and practices of the organisation. An effective employment policy will also reduce the prospect of litigation by ensuring that managers are aware of the legal responsibilities owed to employees and by clearly identifying the correct procedures to be followed if a problem does arise.

Some employment policies are a legal requirement or can have a significant legal impact, such as grievance and disciplinary rules and procedures and health and safety policies, but there are a variety of other policies that are often adopted by employers. However, with such a multitude of policies it is easy to see how they can become over complicated and out-of-date.

As a special New Years offer (to help with those resolutions!) the Employment Law Team at Wilson Browne Solicitors can, for just £295 plus VAT, provide you with a set of 11 clearly drafted, fully bespoke, up-to-date, core HR policies, designed especially for you and your business. The policies cover absence management, disciplinary and capability, redundancy, equal opportunities, whistleblowing, harassment and bullying, grievances, bribery, holiday maternity and paternity and social media.

If you are interested in exploring this offer further or, alternatively, if you would like to discuss a review of your existing employment policies, please contact Steven Conway, Head of the Employment Law Team on 01604 876697, by email at or by visiting www.wilsonbrowne.co.uk.
