Investment plan pays off

AN ambitious five-year investment plan has paid dividends for Moulton Park-based Arnold Engineering Plastics Ltd.

In total, £1.15m has been spent on high specification 3, 4 and 5 Axis Machining Centres most of which have Wireless Intuitive Probing Systems aiding the maximisation of productivity and sustainable accuracy.

Responding to growing demands for their services, Arnold’s have purchased their second Haas UMC 750 5 Axis Machining Centre and a Belotti 5 Axis Machining Centre in the 2018 calendar year, the latter enabling them to machine large patterns in epoxy tooling board, aluminium and an extensive range of engineering plastics.

Arnold’s have also upgraded their quality management infrastructure with the acquisition of a 3D Laser Scanner which provides their customers with a visual quality report by email prior to the delivery of the parts themselves. This machine also provides scope for reverse engineering projects.

Managing Director Peter Larkins, reflecting on a successful financial year, said: “We have an extensive and discerning customer base from motorsport, aeronautical, oil and gas exploration, defence and renewable energy. They demand on-time delivery of parts to their exacting specifications. We have responded by addressing plant capacity issues, skills shortages through training including a successful apprenticeship scheme that is delivered with NITAL (Northamptonshire Industrial Training Agency Limited). In 2018, three young people graduated through this programme. We also have plans to expand our 29,000 square foot facility by the end of 2020.”

Having been established by former Northamptonshire cricketer Peter Arnold, the company will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2022.

Peter Larkins, who has owned the company since 1992, added: “I owe Peter a lot. He demonstrated a lot of faith in me and I have worked hard to make the most of the opportunity. Peter came over from New Zealand in 1950 for a successful trial with Northamptonshire County Cricket Club and he has lived in Northamptonshire ever since. He was instinctively entrepreneurial and built several successful businesses in Northampton”.

Arnold’s new website, showcasing the significant investment, is set for launch this month at www.arnoldplastics.com
