Key appointments to expanding team

HAINES Watts is delighted to announce the further expansion of its Corporate & Private Client tax teams with a number of senior appointments in 2019, off the back of a number of similar high level appointments in 2018.

Clients already benefit from a highly experienced tax team, however with the growing client base and the increased interest in tax compliance and sound mitigation planning, it was clear further expansion was needed. Taxation is often high on the agenda for most individuals and business owners, but with the complexity and constantly changing environment, it’s important as business advisors to stay ahead of this in order to best serve clients’ needs.

As a former R&D HMRC Inspector, Emma Craig-West joined the business last year to head up the R&D offering, bringing with her an enormous amount of technical and practical experience in this growing sector. Clients are often unaware of the benefits available to them in relation to R&D Tax Credits and the types of activities which qualify. She was joined shortly after by Sheryll Northern. Sheryll came in to the business to lead on VAT compliance and advisory across the region, supporting the client base and helping to demystify this often-complex area of tax legislation.

In the first quarter of 2019 Emma Queen joined as a Tax Director. With experience both from a Big Four practice, as well as a large regional independent firm, she is exceptionally well placed to provide insight and practical commercial advice across all areas of tax. Within weeks of this appointment, the business also welcomed Richard Roberts as an Associate Tax Director. With specialist knowledge and experience around tax planning for High Net Worth Individuals and OMBs, he further bolsters the business’s ability to support clients in this area.

Andy Minifie, Regional Chairman said: “Our clients are becoming increasingly interested in ensuring they’re not only compliant with tax legislation, but also how they can actively plan to mitigate any potential liabilities. With an experienced tax team already in situ, it’s been important for us to identify how we can further enhance this and build on the strengths we already have within the team.”

The development of the tax team is set to continue into the second quarter of 2019, with a number of exciting recruits to be announced in due course. The strength and depth within the team will mean the business is best placed to support businesses and individuals across the region in all areas of tax compliance and advisory.

Chris Timms, Regional Managing Director said: “In an increasing minefield of tax legislation, it’s imperative our clients can turn to us for proactive, practical commercial advice when trying to navigate their way through it. Recent and planned appointments to the tax team further demonstrate our commitment to our clients, in supporting them in all aspects of their professional and personal journey.”

Haines Watts East Midlands services the needs of over 3,000 clients, many of whom are owner managed businesses and they do so through their philosophy of ‘Helping their clients reach their destination with speed and certainty’.
