IF anyone can understand your business needs it’s a company that was set up specifically to fulfil exactly the service you are looking for.

Northampton firm Route 1 Couriers was founded three years ago as part of Mainstream, a packaging company that was looking for a fast, reliable and efficient courier service, and went ahead and set up its own sister company to provide just that.

Founded by Jade Haines, along with her husband Lee Haines and father in law Richard Haines, the company now employs four people, coordinating a team of drivers with vehicles ranging from vans to articulated lorries and covering local and national same-day deliveries as well as European freight runs.

“Mainstream had been looking for a good courier service for some time and realised that the best way to do it was to set up their own operation,” said Jade. “With the business experience of Lee and his father Richard, who is also a Director of Mainstream, behind me, I spent a year building up the company, serving Mainstream’s needs but also building a client base who could also benefit from our experience.

“Three years on, we have two controllers, Shane Geary and Bill Pusey, handling the UK and European service respectively, and Lauren Smith, who handles the administration and helps the rest of us out when we’re busy.”

Clients range from companies who want a single package delivering urgently, to regular contract customers who are transporting a number of consignments each week. Based within the Mainstream site on the Kingsfield Business Park, Gladstone Road, Route 1 Couriers is also able to utilise existing warehousing space to offer a storage, pallet reworking and pick and pack service where required.

“We have a wide and varied list of clients, moving anything from printed material to pharmaceuticals,” said Jade. “After three years, they’ve got to know and trust us and our team of drivers, benefiting from our reaction time which averages around 30 minutes, and the company is going from strength to strength.”
