A Christmas clean sweep?

Are you bored with staring at the same old faces at the Christmas works do?

Are you bored with staring at the same old faces at the Christmas works do? Do you really want to chat to the dull bloke from IT over cold turkey and soggy sprouts again this year?

Well thanks to Beckworth Emporium’s returning festive ice rink, you don’t have to!

This year, as well as the opportunity to don the blades and skate to your heart’s content on 400 square metres of real ice, the Mears Ashby venue is offering the chance to try your hand at curling – something which proved so popular last year, it has doubled the number of sessions available!

Among those to have a go with the stones and sweeping brooms of the icy sport at the Emporium last year was Debbie Faulkner from Rothersthorpe, who went with a gang of friends; “I thought it would be a really fun way to celebrate my birthday by doing something just a little bit different and that’s exactly what it proved to be!” explained Debbie.

“We were all complete beginners but quickly got the hang of it and had a great time – so much so that we’ve already booked to go back this year!” she enthused.

Festive skating at Beckworth runs daily until Tuesday January (except 25 and 26 December and 1 January) on both the main rink and the VIP/party rink. The latter can be booked for private parties by families, businesses, charity groups and other organisations, with a 20% discount for group bookings of 20 or more.

Over 60% of general sessions are half price, including those set aside for parents and toddlers, while the rink-side ice café offers a selection of hot food and drinks to warm those who’ve been skating and those who prefer to watch!

Meanwhile specialist twin blade skates are available up to adult size 15 while the ever popular push-along penguins offer even more support to little beginners!
