APRIL saw the competitors in the 2017 Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship tackle the ultra-fast forest tracks of Kielder Forest in Northumberland for the Pirelli International Rally.
“Killer Kielder as it is known, is a place where the slightest mistake can result in a massive accident,” said Phil Harris of Northampton-based Harris & Co Chartered Accountants who race a Mini Cooper in the event. “Its tracks are very fast with lots of blind crests, so complete trust in your co-driver to call it right is critical.
“Richard Suter did a brilliant job in the co-driver’s seat and RSR Historic Engineering prepared the car beautifully as usual.
“We were flying all day, and the only drama we had was a puncture towards the end of Stage 1.
“Other than that we had a trouble-free run to a brilliant result – 19th overall, first in Category 1 and first in the class is an amazing result from the smallest car in the event.”
