Achievements celebrated

MOULTON College’s annual awards ceremonies took place at the Holcot Centre in June to celebrate the exciting achievements and fantastic work that the students have produced over the last year.

As is tradition at the College’s prestigious event, principal Stephen Davies gave an inspiring talk, encouraging students to take pride in their achievements and to remember all the valuable lessons they have learned in their time at Moulton as well as giving a review of the performance over the last year. This included further improvements in success rates, 91 per cent of 16 to 18-year-old students achieved their vocational qualifications which is six per cent above the national average. 90 per cent of leavers have gone on to further studies or into employment, this is a great success and reflects one of the College’s core values which is to develop the employability of students to prepare them for the world of work.

Award winners at the event were joined by college staff, parents, mayors, councillors, local employers and, most importantly, the students to celebrate their incredible hard work and to recognise outstanding contributions to courses and the college.

Nathan Douglas, triple jump silver medallist at the 2006 European Championships, was one of the guest lecturers who congratulated students on their performance across the year.

The event was also attended by Chief Executive of Pet Industry Federation, Nigel Baker; Chris Blythe, Chief Executive of The Chartered Institute of Building; Chris Jones, Chief Executive of England Athletics LTD and Lord Boswell of Aynho, who all gave guest speeches to students.

Of the event, Stephen Davies said: “The results secured by students is quite remarkable when judged against any criteria because Moulton doesn’t select its entrants upon prior performance, and this year we saw over?93 percent of students achieving their qualifications.

“The awards ceremonies are the highlight of the year and it is right that we celebrate the success of our students in this way.”

Over the past 12 months, Moulton College has used its capital investment to improve estate and facilities, one of which is the investment in new laboratories for bioscience and construction science, these much improved and up-to-date facilities will further enhance the student experience.
