Always giving their all

AT Spectrum Powder Coaters Ltd the specialist team headed up by Managing Director Chris Shannon, like his new wife Denise, always give 100 per cent.

It makes good business sense at the Daventry-based business which offers specialist services to metalworkers across the region. This commitment has also proved to be a winning formula for Denise, then Larrad, who was named the BBC Get Inspired Unsung Hero award winner at the Sports Personality of the Year 2017.

Denise was recognised for her success in Hinckley, Leicestershire, in a wide-ranging project to increase people’s activity. This includes a beginners’ running group where she motivates participants to run a 5k race, putting on weekly sessions for the elderly on behalf of the charity Age UK, and organising orienteering courses across the borough in town parks, woodlands and schools.

In the meantime, Denise supports Chris, now Managing Director at the firm which four years ago was taken over in a management buyout.

Chris, who has worked for the business for nearly 25 years, said: “Wow what a busy year we have had on a business and personal level. Not only have we been busy setting up the new quality standard and the day-to-day running of a small company but on a personal level almost every weekend and evening has been taken up supporting my wife in her role. We are looking forward to our long overdue honeymoon in January when hopefully we can put our feet up.

“Spectrum are a small company, but this means we can offer the best of both worlds – a personal service and the experience of a well-established, forward thinking company.”

On top of the company’s core service of powder coating, constant investment in machinery and training enables the business to offer a wide range of services including masking to detailed drawings and casting impregnation and sealing. The facilities include two by three metre box ovens for coating large and heavy items, as well as a fully automated line for coating volume production components. The company has its own fleet of vehicles so can arrange collection and delivery.

A year after the buyout the business was awarded IS0 9001 accreditation and is in the final stages of acquiring the latest quality standard – ISO 9001:2015.
