BOSWORTH College’s popular Summer School programme is now under way. International students have the chance to take part in a six-week programme of Intensive English over the summer. Alongside the English lessons, students have the opportunity, three afternoons a week, to opt for either arts and crafts or tennis tuition. With the tennis, students go off-site to the Northampton County Lawn Tennis Club in Weston Favell for their afternoon sessions. Bosworth sought out this link with the local club last year and the programme has proved a successful addition to the Summer School. Dean Gayton, who qualified through the Professional Tennis Registry, has over eight years’ coaching experience and works full time for the club, runs the programme for the college. During the six weeks students will gain a general overview of all aspects of tennis shots: forehand, backhand, serve and volley. Then technique and match play tactics will be added once the basics have been mastered. Students join with all abilities and depending on their levels, some will also go on to have singles and doubles tournaments to encourage improvements to match play. Tennis coach, Dean Gayton, said: “For me, the great thing is the different cultures and backgrounds the students come from. For example, many of them are from large cities all around the world and they are fascinated to come to a traditional old English tennis club, rather than just a gym or facility and they like to take photos of the clubhouse and the setting as they soak up the atmosphere. “Personally, I also enjoy the challenge of taking a mixed ability group and watching them all enjoy their tennis and gaining better technique during their time with us.” Find out more about Bosworth Independent College on 01604 235090 or visit the website www.bosworthcollege.com
