Architects planning housing growth

AS national architects and masterplanners, with a head office based in Kettering for 140 years, GSSArchitecture takes pride in projects that benefit the local community. The practice is currently involved in the delivery of a scheme in the north of Wellingborough, where GSS has designed a primary school, nursery and community centre, which will be delivered within the first phase of this sustainable urban extension.

The Glenvale Park scheme will bring 3,000 new homes to the area, alongside associated leisure facilities, shops, cafes, bars and restaurants, with the new community centre, nursery and primary school at the heart of the development. This urban extension will significantly increase and enhance the current facilities on offer in this part of Northamptonshire, and will create a great deal of new job opportunities in Wellingborough.

With a rapidly growing population and a significant increase in demand for residential and commercial property, there is now a rush to construct new homes, and to provide employment opportunities to accelerate economic development.

At present, the practice is working for developers and housebuilders on a variety of sites in the county, which will deliver over 20,000 new homes over the next few years. This includes specialist building and urban design expertise for the West Corby Development, a sustainable urban extension that will deliver 4,500 new homes over the next 15 years. Planning approval has recently been achieved, with the first stage of development due to commence in 2020.

Senior Partner at GSSArchitecture, Tom Lyons, said: “It is great for the practice to be directly involved with these important local developments. With GSS working on schemes in Wellingborough, Corby and Northampton, as well as the plans for much needed additional schools to the east of Kettering; it’s an exciting time for the county and for GSS.”

The experience that GSSArchitecture has in the delivery of larger scale urban developments and regeneration is varied, and bespoke to clients’ requirements. The practice’s portfolio ranges from small residential projects to commercial developments of up to 100 acres on mixed use, greenfield, regeneration and urban city centre sites.

Most recently, GSSArchitecture delivered the first school at the new large-scale residential development, New Lubbesthorpe, located to the west of Leicester. The primary school is situated on the central square near the main road, and is a key landmark of the new development.

Once complete, New Lubbesthorpe will provide 4250 dwellings, a mixed-use district centre and two mixed-use local centres, featuring retail, commercial, employment leisure, health, community and residential uses.
